Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Stir in beaten egg and molasses.
Sift flour (measured) with baking soda, salt and spices.
Add to creamed mixture, stirring until blended.
Chill in refrigerator several hours.
Shape into balls the size of marbles. Dip balls in sugar and place on greased baking sheet.
Bake 15 minutes at 375\u00b0.
