Burnt Sugar Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    1 c. cream
    1/8 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. butter
Preparation
    In heavy
    saucepan, cook 1/2 cup sugar to liquid stage. Add 1/2 cup
    water
    and
    melt
    again.
    Add 3 cups sugar, light corn syrup, cream and
    salt.
    Cook
    without
    stirring until it forms a soft ball.\tAdd
    butter.
    After
    it
    cools,
    whip with mixer until creamy, 5 to
    8 minutes.
    Store in icebox 8 hours. Melt (may use microwave) and spread on layers.
