Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 grated orange rind
1/4 tsp. lemon extract or 1 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
Preparation

Cream the shortening and sugar.
Add beaten egg, grated rind and extracts.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Chill until firm.
Place dough on lightly floured board and roll out thin.
Cut with any fancy cutters you prefer.
Decorate with small pieces of candied fruit or colored sugar.
Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a slow oven (325\u00b0) for about 12 minutes.
