Ingredients

1 c. lard
1/2 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
3 tsp. baking soda
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream together lard, sugar and eggs.
Add soda to buttermilk; add molasses, then add spices and salt to the flour and sift in the dry ingredients.
Add just enough flour to make a soft dough. Roll out dough and cut with cookie cutter.
When cookies are on the baking sheet, moisten center of each with a cloth dipped in cold water and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 375\u00b0.
