Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. light brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour, sifted
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix
together
thoroughly
the shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk
and vanilla.\tStir in salt and flour.
Chill dough. Roll into 1-inch balls.\tPlace about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for 5 minutes.\tRemove from oven
and quickly
press
thumb gently on top of each cookie. Return\tto oven
and
bake 8 minutes longer.
Cool.
Place in thumbprint
a bit of chopped fruit, jam, tinted confectioners sugar
icing
or Hershey's Kisses.
If desired, sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.
