Onion Bread Fritters - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 c. cornmeal
    1 c. self-rising flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 egg
    1 c. buttermilk
    oil to fry
Preparation
    Mix flour and meal together with salt and soda.
    Add egg and buttermilk.
    Stir well (if too thick, add water).
    Add chopped onion; stir well.
    Heat oil in skillet (just cover the bottom to fry first batch).
    Dip 2 tablespoons batter into hot oil for each fritter.
    Watch and turn with spatula until done.
