Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. softened butter
    1 c. powdered sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. peppermint extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    red food coloring
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Blend flour and salt into small bowl. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and extracts well, then stir in flour and salt. Divide dough in half and color one half with 8 drops of red food coloring.
    Refrigerate, wrapped in plastic, for 2 hours.
    Working with 1 teaspoon of dough at a time, form 5-inch long, pencil-thin cylinders of each color.
    Twist 1 of each cylinder together to look like a candy cane.
    Bake 12 to 15 minutes.
    Yields about 4 dozen.
