Ingredients

1/2 c. soft margarine
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. sifted Gold Medal flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Mix margarine, sugar and egg thoroughly.
Add buttermilk and vanilla.
Sift together flour, soda, salt and cocoa; stir in.
Mix in nuts, if desired.
Chill at least one hour.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly with finger, 8 to 10 minutes in a 400\u00b0 oven.
May be iced with chocolate icing.
I use canned frosting if in a hurry.
