Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. sour milk
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. ground raisins or nuts, figs
Preparation

Mix together first 4 ingredients. Dissolve baking soda in milk and add to mixture. Combine flour, salt and raisins and add to mixture. Refrigerate 4 or 5 hours. Roll into balls and press with fork. Bake in a 400\u00b0 oven for 8 to 9 minutes. Makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies, depending on size.
