Christmas Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour (save 1 cup to roll fruit in)
    2 eggs, well beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. candied cherries
    2 slices candied pineapple
    1 c. white raisins
    1/2 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and 1 1/2 cups flour to mixture, then add vanilla.
    Put remaining cup of flour on chopped fruit and nuts, add to rest of mixture.
    Make into 4 or more rolls, chill and cut.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.
    Can be frozen and used later.
    (I always double recipe.)
