Shamrock Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening (half butter or margarine)
    1 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    1 egg
    1 to 2 tsp. peppermint flavoring
    2 1/2 c. Gold Medal flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. green food coloring
Preparation
    Heat oven to 375\u00b0 (quick moderate).
    Mix shortening, sugar, egg and flavoring thoroughly.
    Measure flour by dipping method (or by sifting).
    Stir in flour, salt and food coloring.
    To shape shamrocks, roll 3 small balls (3/4 teaspoon dough each); flatten together with fingertips into shamrock shape.
    Shape stem and attach.
    Sprinkle with green decorator's sugar.
    Complete cookies one at a time or the tiny balls may become dry and crack when pressed.
    Bake about 9 minutes.
    Makes 9 dozen cookies.
