Ingredients

2 sticks butter, softened
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar well.
Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually blend in dry ingredients.
Chill the dough at least 3 hours.
Roll 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured pastry sheet.
Cut cookies with floured cookie cutters.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Yields about 2 1/2 dozen.
