1 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
Lightly grease cookie sheets.
Sift flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; set aside.
Mix butter, confectioners sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract in a large bowl.
Blend in flour mixture.
Cover and chill 2 to 3 hours. Divide dough in half and roll each half 2/16-inch thick on a lightly floured board.
Dip a cookie cutter into flour and press on dough to make various designs.
Sprinkle with colored sugar or granulated sugar.
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown on edges.
Cool on cooling rack. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
