Ingredients

1/2 c. butter, softened
6 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/2 tsp. hot water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips
Preparation

Position 2 racks to divide the oven into thirds and preheat to 375\u00b0.
Line cookie sheets with baking parchment or aluminum foil, shiny side up.
Cream the butter with the sugars until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla; beat well.
Stir in the nuts and chocolate morsels.
You can chill the dough for at least 1 hour at this point to make it easier to handle.
