Steamed Brown Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. Indian meal
    1 pt. c. rye flour
    1 qt. sweet milk
    1 c. molasses
    2 tsp. Saleratus *
    a little salt
    1 c. boiling water
    1 c. chopped dates
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 tsp. melted butter
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. nuts
    2 c. raisins
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. butter
    2 cakes yeast (or pkg.)
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    6 c. flour
    2 c. water
Preparation
    Pour 2 cups boiling water over raisins; allow to cool.
    Add salt, butter and sugar, then eggs.
    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
    Put all of this in large bowl.
    Add flour gradually, mixing with hands.
    Knead dough until smooth and elastic.
    Round up in greased bowl; turn to bring greased side up.
    Cover with damp cloth and let rise in warm place until double in size.
    Punch down; let rise again until almost double.
