Yeast Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 c. flour, divided
    2 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. salt
    1 qt. milk
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. Crisco
    4 pkg. yeast
    1/2 c. warm water
    melted butter
Preparation
    Sift 4 cups flour into an oversize crockery bowl.
    Sift 4 cups flour into a smaller bowl, to which has been added 2 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons salt and 1 scant teaspoon soda.
    Put milk in large saucepan; add sugar and Crisco.
    Bring to a boil, but do not boil.
    Remove from stove; place in sink with several inches of water to cool.
    Place lid on top of pan.
    Put yeast into warm water.
    Dissolve.
    When milk is cooled to lukewarm, add yeast; pour this into first bowl with only the flour.
    Use rotary beater to distribute lumps.
