Ingredients

2/3 c. soft shortening (equal parts shortening and butter or margarine)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Preparation

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0. Mix shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dip-level, pour method or by sifting. Blend soda and salt with flour. Mix in nuts and chocolate pieces. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2-inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet. Makes 4 to 5 dozen cookies.
