Date And Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. melted margarine
    1 egg
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 c. chopped dates (do not buy dates already chopped, chop your own into 3 or 4 pieces)
    2 3/4 c. bread flour, sifted
    2 tsp. soda (baking)
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 c. walnuts
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Grease and flour 2 bread pans.
    Pour boiling water over dates; allow to stand for 20 minutes.
    Beat egg; add sugar and melted butter or margarine.
    Beat well.
    Strain water from dates into egg mixture.
    Sift flour, soda and salt into mixture of egg and water. Add chopped nuts, dates and vanilla.
    Pour into bread pans; bake for 1 hour at 325\u00b0.
    Makes 16 (1/2-inch) slices.
