Cherry Icebox Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 large egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 3/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    16 oz. maraschino cherries, drained and chopped fine
    1 c. pecans, chopped fine
Preparation
    Beat butter and sugar together. Add egg and vanilla. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; mix well.
    Then add to butter mixture. Pat cherries between paper towels to remove excess moisture. Stir cherries and pecans into dough. Cover and chill 2 hours. Shape dough into 11/2 diameter, 8-inch long rolls. Roll in colored sugar, if desired.
