Ingredients

4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2/3 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 c. chopped pecans
2 c. chopped dates
1 c. candied cherries, chopped
1 c. candied mixed fruits and peels
Preparation

Sift flour with soda and salt.
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually.
Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy.
Add flour and sour milk or buttermilk alternately.
Add nuts and fruits; mix well.
Chill dough for several hours.
Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake in moderate oven at 375\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes 12 dozen cookies.
