Irish Soda Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 (15 oz.) box seedless raisins
    4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 lb. butter
    1 egg
    1 3/4 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Wash raisins in warm water.
    Drain well.
    Into a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and pepper. Cut in butter as for pie dough.
    Mix in raisins.
    Add egg to buttermilk; mix well and stir into flour mixture.
    Turn dough out onto lightly floured board.
    Knead lightly (about a minute).
    Do not overwork.
    Shape into a round cake and place in greased 10-inch pan (iron if possible).
    Cut cross on top and prick surface with a fork.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 minutes, then at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes longer.
    When done, brush with butter.
