Holiday Cranberry Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    juice and grated rind of 1 orange
    2 Tbsp. melted shortening
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. raw cranberries, halved
Preparation
    Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Combine the juice and grated rind of orange, melted shortening and enough boiling water to make 3/4 cup.
    Add beaten egg.
    Blend liquid into dry ingredients.
    Stir only until the flour mixture is dampened, add chopped nuts and cranberries.
    Pour into greased pan (8 1/2 x 4 x 3-inches).
    Push batter into corners of pan.
    Allow to stand 20 minutes.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 60 to 70 minutes.
    Cool before slicing.
