Ingredients

1 c. sugar
2 c. molasses
1 egg
2/3 c. boiling water
1 c. melted shortening (oil)
3 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
flour
Preparation

Mix all together well, except flour.
Add enough flour to make a soft, dull-looking dough.
Refrigerate overnight.
Roll out onto a floured board; cut out cookies (1/2-inch thick).
Sprinkle with sugar; bake at 375\u00b0.
