1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
2 Tbsp. milk
2 c. sifted Gold Medal flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
nutmeg
Preparation

Blend the first 4 ingredients.
Beat the next 2 ingredients. Stir in the last 3 ingredients.
Then, drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet.
Grease bottom of a glass.
Dip glass in sugar and flatten each cookie.
Sprinkle cookies with nutmeg.
Bake 8 to 11 minutes until light golden. Cool on a rack.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
