Ingredients

3 c. shortening
4 eggs
8 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. cloves
4 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
2 Tbsp. + 2 tsp. soda
4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar (to make it easier to mix, I melt the oleo, but then be sure to chill dough several hours).
Add eggs and molasses.
Sift and add dry ingredients.
Roll into balls the size of walnuts.
Roll lightly in sugar; do not flatten.
Bake at 375\u00b0, 3 inches apart on ungreased tin.
