Mom Brosius' Penna. Michigan Rocks(Cookies) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. shortening
    4 eggs
    1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in a little hot water
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 c. dates
    1 c. nuts (English walnuts)
    3 c. flour (maybe a little more flour)
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix ingredients in order given.
    Nuts and dates should be in big chunks to give rocky effect.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
    Baking degree and time may vary!
