Ingredients

3/4 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
1 Tbsp. white sugar
1 egg yolk (unbeaten)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder (optional)
Preparation

Cream butter and the sugars together well.
Add the unbeaten egg yolk and vanilla.
Beat well.
Blend in the sifted flour (with baking powder mixed in).
If desired, chill dough for 1/2 hour or so for easier handling.
Shape into balls to make about a 3-inch cookie.
Place on buttered baking sheet.
Flatten with bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
When cookies cool, frost with the following frosting recipe.
