Healthful Date Bread - cooking recipe

1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates
1 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts
Preparation

In a medium bowl combine dates and raisins.
Pour boiling water over mixture and set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, stir in flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
When date mixture is cool, stir in egg and vanilla.
Add the date mixture.
Stir until blended.
Mixture will be thick.
Spread batter evenly in a lightly greased 5 x 9 x 3-inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
