Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, cut up
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. boiling water
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 beaten egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over dates, butter and sugar.
    Cool.
    Sift together flour, soda and salt; add to the date mixture.
    Stir in egg and vanilla.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Add nuts.
    Pour into a lightly greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 5 minutes or slightly longer, then reduce heat to 300\u00b0.
    Continue baking for 1 hour.
