Sopaipillas (Hot Puffed Bread)(About 3 Dozen) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    2 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1/2 Tbsp. shortening, melted and cooled
    fat (for deep frying)
Preparation
    Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into bowl. Add milk and shortening to make soft dough.
    Turn onto lightly floured board and roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness.
    Cut into 1 x 3-inch strips.
    Make a lengthwise slit in center of each strip. Fry in deep hot fat, 375\u00b0, about 2 minutes total time, tearing once.
    Drain on paper towels.
    Serve with syrup, honey or preserves.
