Ingredients

1 c. white sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. cold coffee
2 tsp. soda
1 1/4 c. shortening
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt
6 c. flour
1 c. molasses
Preparation

In a bowl, mix together coffee, molasses and soda.
Let stand. In second bowl, sift together dry ingredients.
Add egg to molasses mixture and stir.
Mix in molasses mixture with dry ingredients.
Mix all together.
Place dough in refrigerator. Roll out dough on floured board.
Do not roll too thin.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
Do not overbake. Cool and frost with a powdered sugar frosting.
