Ingredients

1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg and 1 egg yolk (reserve the white)
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. maple extract
2/3 c. pecan halves (optional)
Preparation

Sift flour with soda and salt; cream butter.
Add brown sugar. Cream well in egg and egg yolk, vanilla and maple extract.
Add dry ingredients gradually; mix well and chill.
Arrange pecan halves in groups of 5 on greased cookie sheet to resemble head and legs of a turtle.
Shape dough by teaspoon into ball.
Dip bottom into egg white; press lightly onto nuts so tips will show when baked.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 13 minutes.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
