Date-Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    chopped walnuts
    1 c. cut up pitted dates
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    3/4 c. boiling water
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
Preparation
    Mix first 4 ingredients with flour.
    Add shortening and water. Let stand for 20 minutes.
    Beat eggs with fork.
    Add vanilla, then sugar and flour, beating with fork.
    Add date mixture; mix to first blend.
    Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan, bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
