Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/4 c. shortening
    3/4 c. boiling water
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. sugar
Preparation
    Combine nuts, dates, soda and salt.
    Add shortening and water; allow 15 minutes to cool.
    Stir to blend.
    Beat eggs slightly; add vanilla.
    Stir in sugar and flour.
    Add to date mixture.
    Don't overmix.
    Place in greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour. Cool before removing from pan.
