Ingredients

1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. flour
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
good pinch salt
Preparation

Soften butter to room temperature.
Mix other ingredients thoroughly into butter; use hands, if necessary.
Pinch off small pieces of mixture; roll into balls the size of large marbles. Place on cookie sheet.
Make a small depression in each; fill this with some tart jelly or preserves.
Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven.
Watch carefully, as they burn easily.
(Cooking time:
20 to 30 minutes.) Yields 24.
