Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. Crisco
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 Tbsp. water
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. blanched almonds (whole)
1 egg yolk, mixed with 1 Tbsp. water
Preparation

Cream Crisco and sugar; add egg and mix.
Add 1 tablespoon of water and extract.
Sift baking powder and flour together.
Add to creamed ingredients.
Mix until blended.
Chill.
Form into balls. Put on greased cookie sheet and flatten with bottom of glass into circles (not too thin).
Place almond in center and brush with egg and water mixture.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
