Ingredients

3/4 c. butter or shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Melt shortening.
Cool.
Add sugar, molasses and egg.
Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt.
Add to mixture.
Chill.
Form in 1-inch balls.
Roll in sugar.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Allow to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before forming balls.
