Apple Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. buttermilk
    1 c. sifted self-rising flour
    1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind
    3/4 c. peeled, chopped tart apples
    1 1/2 tsp. sugar
    cinnamon to taste
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Grease loaf pan.
    Cream together shortening, sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
    Blend in remaining ingredients, except cinnamon and 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar.
    Pour into prepared pan and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
    Bake 50 minutes.
    After cooling, the bread may be wrapped and frozen.
