Ingredients

1 c. confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp. soda
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. butter
1 egg, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Sift dry ingredients.
Cut in butter as for pie crust with knives.
Add egg and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
Form into balls. Flatten with a small glass dipped in granulated sugar.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet about 10 minutes or until lightly browned at 400\u00b0.
