Ingredients

1 c. plus 3 Tbsp. butter
1 1/4 c. sugar, divided
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
3/4 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and 1 cup sugar; blend in molasses and egg.
Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon,
ginger and cloves; add to creamed mixture and blend well.
Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls.
Roll balls in remaining sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheets.
Press flat with a fork.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 10 to 12 minutes.
Yields about 4 dozen.
