Banana Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 eggs, separated
    2/3 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. mashed bananas
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 c. sour milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
    whipped cream and sliced bananas for topping (optional)
Preparation
    In small bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form; set aside.
    In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
    Beat in egg yolks and mix well.
    Add bananas.
    Combine flour and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well.
    Add vanilla.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Fold in nuts.
    Pour in greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0
    for 45 to 50 minutes.
    Cool. Garnish with whipped cream and banana slices.
