Ingredients

1 c. butter, softened
1 1/4 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. sugar
Preparation

In large bowl, mix butter and powdered sugar until light and smooth.
Beat in egg and vanilla until fluffy.
In medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar.
Add in thirds to creamed mixture, blending after each addition.
Divide in half and flatten each.
Put in a dish and wrap.
Chill 1 1/2 hours.
Roll out and cut.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 6 to 8 minutes.
Makes 5 dozen.
