Fruitcake Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. shortening
    2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    3 c. chopped pecans
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    1 c. candied cherries, cut in quarters
    1 c. candied fruits
    2 c. chopped dates
Preparation
    Add soda and salt to flour.
    Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs.
    Beat until light and fluffy.
    Add milk and flour.
    Stir in nuts, cherries and dates.
    Chill several hours.
