Thumbprint Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. margarine
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    2 egg yolks
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 egg whites
    1 c. finely chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Mix shortening, margarine, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
    Blend flour and salt.
    Stir in little at a time.
    Roll 1 teaspoon dough into balls.
    Dip in slightly beaten egg whites.
    Roll in nuts.
    Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Press thumb gently into center.
    Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Cool.
    Fill holes with strawberry jam.
    Makes 5 dozen cookies.
