Surprise Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. boiling water
    1/2 lb. dates, finely chopped
    1 3/4 c. sifted flour (plain)
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Pour water over dates; let stand 5 minutes.
    Sift together flour, soda, salt and sugar.
    Add date mixture, egg, cheese, vanilla and nuts.
    Mix well.
    Pour into greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0
    for 45 minutes to 50 minutes.
    Remove from pan.
    Cool on rack.
    Makes 1 loaf.
    Very good served with softened cream cheese.
