Ingredients

2 c. raisins
1 c. water
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation

Combine raisins and water; cover and simmer 5 minutes.
Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid.
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and reserved liquid. Add vanilla and beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture.
Stir in raisins and nuts. Drop from teaspoon about
1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven at 375\u00b0
about 10 to 12 minutes.
Frost while warm if desired.
Makes about 6 dozen.
