Burnt Sugar Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2/3 c. butter
    2 eggs
    3 1/3 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. cold water
Preparation
    Scorch brown sugar until quite dark.
    Add boiling water; cook until it forms thick syrup; set aside and let cool.
    Cream sugar and butter; add egg yolks.
    Sift flour, soda and baking powder. Mix sugar mixture with flour mixture.
    Add cold water; mix well. Add burnt sugar mixture.
    Fold in beaten egg whites.
    Bake in 2 layers.
    Put together with caramel filling.
