Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dates, chopped
    3/4 c. hot water
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Pour 3/4 cups hot water over dates.
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add egg.
    Add dates and water, flour, baking soda, salt, vanilla and walnuts.
    Pour into a well-greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 1 hour.
