Cherry Bread - cooking recipe

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. lightly packed brown sugar
1 beaten egg
2 c. presifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. milk
1/3 c. syrup from red maraschino cherries
1/2 c. red maraschino cherries, drained and quartered
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Cream shortening and lightly packed brown sugar; add beaten egg and beat well.
Blend or sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Combine milk and syrup from red maraschino cherries.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternating with milk mixture.
Combine after each addition but do not beat.
Carefully fold in drained, quartered red maraschino cherries, and chopped walnuts.
Pour into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
Let stand 20 minutes.
Bake in a preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 55 to 65 minutes.
