Ingredients

1 c. real butter
1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream the butter and gradually add the powdered sugar.
Mix until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla. Stir until combined. Sift flour, soda, salt and cream of tartar and gradually add to the creamed mixture. Roll out on a lightly floured board to 1/8-inch thick.
Cut into desired shapes and bake for 10 to 12 minutes in a 375\u00b0 oven.
Decorate when completely cool.
Makes 4 to 6 dozen.
